SUMMER ACTIVITIES AT HIGHWIND
If you want to head out for a day of exploring and don't want to be bothered by
private signs restricting your movement, we provide the roads you need. There
will be no highways to cross, just miles of old logging roads and trails. Just
pack your lunch, walk out of your cabin and take off for a day of adventure.
Highwind and surrounding lakes are all deep, clear lakes that are home to a
number of species of fish, the most notable being the lake trout. We also have
smallmouth bass and northern pike in our lake and the surrounding lakes, so
there are many species of fish waiting to challenge the most experienced and
inexperienced fisherman.
Our lake has a sandy bottom and is crystal clear which makes for a great
snorkeling experience. Picture yourself following a school of small-mouth bass
or watching a trophy northern pike as he hides motionless in amongst the
branches of a sunken tree in a shallow bay... or snorkelling amongst the huge
boulders that seem to have been thrown on the bottom by the Lord's hand, and
see the sun's rays draping down to where you are exploring. Doesn't it sound
exciting? And if you prefer scuba diving, but have forgotten your equipment, be sure to visit Sunset Diving for all your diving needs.
For those who just want to stay in camp, a game of horseshoes is a challenging
way to spend the afternoon, or just enjoy the serenity of the area while
relaxing. We have a well-equipped playground for children located close to our
cabins and campground, so it is easy for parents to keep an eye on their little
ones.
Those interested in botany can wander around camp, book in hand, identifying
the many species of wildflowers growing around Highwind.
